DNA Genotyping and Sequencing. Technician loads robot for genetic studies of the human papillomavirus (HPV) at the Cancer Genomics Research Laboratory, part of the National Cancer Institute's Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics (DCEG).

Diagnostic Services

As of April 2020, we provide a Public Health England approved diagnostic testing service for the Sars-COV-2 Novel Coronavirus which causes COVID-19. The service is available to UK National Health Service patients, staff as well as for other UK based organisations.

This service includes sample inactivation, RNA extraction, real time PCR and data analysis for the diagnosis of novel Coronavirus.

The new coronavirus test that takes just 90 minutes and replaces a lab full of equipment.

About us

The Beggs Lab is based at the Institute of Cancer and Genomic Science at the University of Birmingham. We research cutting edge cancer genetics, focusing primarily on colorectal, oesophageal cancers and sarcomas. We also run the human next generation sequencing facility within the College of Medical and Dental Sciences within the University of Birmingham and provide diagnostic services for the Sars-COV-2 novel Coronavirus.
